6 tips for writing your sales page

When you’re launching a new product or service, it’s important to get your sales page right. Sales pages are what convert your audience into buyers and help you get orders and bookings. In my experience, many business owners aren’t sure where to start when it comes to crafting the perfect sales page, so here are my top tips to help get you started …

1. Write a compelling headline

This is a pretty obvious one, but the headline is the first thing your reader is going to see, so it’s important to get it right and capture their attention from the get go. Be engaging and think about your hook. What is it that’s going to make your audience want to read on? In a nutshell, your headline is an explanatory sentence that gives your audience a clear idea of what you’re offering and why they need it in their lives.

2. Focus on the benefits

When writing your sales page, the key question to keep at the forefront of your mind is what are the benefits of this service/product for your customers? What problem is it solving for them? It can be helpful to sit and write a list of all the benefits you’re offering before you start writing so you’re super clear on what you’re bringing to the table. Once your reader can clearly see all the benefits on offer, you’re making it an absolute no brainer for them to say yes to you!

3. Think about the barriers

This is a really useful question to ask yourself whenever you’re writing a sales page. What is it that might be stopping people from saying yes to your services and preventing them from taking action? It could be something as simple as being unclear on your pricing, or concern about reaching out with questions and then being sold to. They might have questions about your qualifications or experience or whether or not you offer an initial discovery call. Sit and think about all those barriers to people taking action and buying from you and make sure you address those questions in your sales page copy. Simple.

4. Be concise

Always avoid making your sales page overly long and wordy. We live in a world where people are likely to be reading whilst scrolling on a phone and they simply won’t have the time to read reams of endless copy. You need to ensure that your content is accurate, compelling and easy to read, otherwise people are likely to just bounce off the page. Opt for shorter sentences over longer, complicated ones and keep it simple and concise. Break the text up with subheadings and bullet points when needed and never overload your reader with too much information.

5. Include testimonials

This is something a lot of people tend to miss out when writing a sales page and it’s so important. Including testimonials from previous customers is a great way to establish trust and increase your credibility with your audience. Don’t be shy about asking your clients for testimonials, that way you can build up a bank of them, ready to share as and when you need them. This is something that many businesses feel awkward about asking for, but you absolutely shouldn’t. Clients who have been pleased with your work are usually happy to write a short testimonial for you and sharing them on your sales page really helps to strengthen it.

6. Have a strong call to action

It goes without saying that you’ll need to finish your sales page with a great call to action. Think about what it is you want the reader to do when they’ve finished reading the page. Most likely, it’ll be to buy your product or service (that’s what a sales page is for after all!) but simply saying ‘Buy Now’ is unlikely to be enough. Your call to action should take the reader through the sales process and make it clear exactly what will happen next. You’ll need to outline your payment methods, pricing and include information about payment plans and deposits if these are applicable. This is the point at which you really need to be as transparent and clear as possible, so the customer understands the next steps and has no reason to pause before hitting that ‘Buy Now’ button.
