I’ve always loved writing

As a child my affinity with writing was clear. I was that kid who would spend all their spare time reading anything and everything they could get their hands on. I would spend hours making up my own little story books from cover to cover and reading my new 'creations' to unsuspecting family members! I just loved the idea that I could take a blank piece of paper and transform it using my words into a fantastical story transporting the reader to a completely new land. I never really knew what I 'wanted to be when I grew up' but I knew that somehow it would involve words. Based on this it was probably not a surprise to anyone when I decided to choose English & American Literature at the University of Kent as my degree course.

What inspired me to get writing?

It was actually visiting a multi-author book signing event organised by another Essex based author back in February 2020 that inspired me to get writing. I met so many fabulous authors at the event that had taken that leap and turned their story ideas into a reality that I finally decided to put pen to paper.

As it turned out this was one of the last in person events that took place before we were hit by the pandemic. I was incredibly unlucky as I contracted Covid 19 a few days before the first UK lockdown in March 2020 and I was unwell for the next couple of months. I remember thinking to myself that, as soon as I was fully recovered, I was getting started on my novel. Life really is too short to have regrets and my brush with Covid really brought that home to me in rather spectacular fashion.
